Kuzuko
The vision behind Kuzuko was to create a “Big Five” safari game park combining conservation, job creation and social transformation in an area with 70% adult unemployment and 20% HIV prevalence. The task was three-fold: build a unique lodge, create sustainable employment, and allow the chosen area to revert to its original habitat.
- 40,000 acres purchased, fenced and incorporated into the Addo Elephant Park, the third largest national park in South Africa.
- 250 jobs created to date in an area of 70% adult unemployment.
- Enabled employee ownership stake in Kuzuko through Workers’ Trust.
- Catalyzed other tourist-related activity including B&B lodging and an airport.
- 5-star lodge managed by Legacy Hotels.
- Runs conservation programs in collaboration with South Africa National Parks.
- Kuzuko will be floated in an IPO as part of INQO on JSE in 2009.
